For the 17th consecutive year, UC San Francisco has been ranked the #1 neurosurgery program for NIH funding, according to an analysis by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. UCSF Neurosurgery faculty members Krystof Bankiewicz, MD, PhD, Edward Chang, MD, Arturo Alvarez-Buylla, PhD, Susan Chang, MD, Mitchel Berger, MD, Adam Ferguson, PhD, and Philip Starr, MD, PhD, were also among the top 25 highest funded Principal Investigators for a neurosurgery program.
The Department's rich basic and clinical science research programs span multiple subspecialties and include over 30 laboratories. From developing a blood test that predicts severe outcomes from TBI to using genomic sequencing for better diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors, researchers at UCSF not only continue to push the field of neuroscience forward every day but also translate those findings to improved patient care.
