Dr. Liu's research focuses on determining the mechanisms mediating functional recovery and endogenous neural-stem-cell plasticity following cerebral ischemia an traumatic brain injury. This work is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the American Heart Association. The Liu laboratory is engaged in molecular and neurobehavioral research to study cell death and regeneration events after stroke, head trauma, and hypoglycemic brain injuries.
