Dean Chou MD
Associate Professor of Clinical Neurological Surgery
Member, UCSF Spine Center
Dr. Chou completed his residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and then undertook a fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has been elected by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in America.
Dr. Chou specializes in minimally invasive spinal surgery. He treats spinal tumors, spinal deformities (scoliosis, kyphosis, flatback syndrome), and degenerative conditions of the spine, including disc herniations, spondylolisthesis, and stenosis.
He is an expert in the treatment of spinal tumors and sits as a charter member of the Spinal Oncology Study Group, an international consortium of experts in the field of spinal tumors. His publications have been featured as the cover article of the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine three times. He has also served as faculty and lecturer, teaching at numerous spine courses, both nationally and internationally.
