Donate to Spinal Disorders Research and Care
Four out of five adults will have a serious episode of severe back pain at some time in their lives, and five to ten percent will develop chronic illness.
Patients who have a disorder of the spinal vertebra, spinal cord, or spinal nerves count on the Neurospinal Disorders Program at UCSF for the most sophisticated care available. Our specialists design treatment plans intended to prevent paralysis, relieve pain, and improve or restore function for patients.
We also specialize in treating patients with complex and difficult spinal tumors. We treat both metastatic and primary tumors, including bony tumors of the spinal column and tumors within the spinal cord itself. We rely on a combination of advanced techniques to safely remove tumors from the spine and reconstruct the vertebral column if necessary.
Finally, we are leading clinical studies that explore the potential of new, minimally invasive procedures to treat spinal diseases and disorders through much smaller incisions and reduce time spent in the hospital and in recovery.
