Donate to Brain & Spinal Cord Injury Research and Care
Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries often result in permanent disabilities that can profoundly affect the quality of life for those afflicted. In the quest for a solution, researchers at UCSF seek answers for every stage of injury, from the events in the initial trauma through the mechanisms of functional recovery.
The Brain and Spinal Injury Center (BASIC) at UCSF is a joint effort between the department of neurological surgery and the department of neurology dedicated to bringing promising new treatments from the laboratory to patients. Headquartered at San Francisco General Hospital (the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the city and county of San Francisco), BASIC encourages collaboration between basic scientists and clinical researchers across disciplines. We believe that this approach offers us the best chance to develop new strategies to improve treatment and, eventually, promise complete recovery.
