Improve the Patient Experience

Engaging patients in their care is a key element to improving the patient experience. To that end, the Spine Center is rolling out EMMI, a web-based, interactive program that educates patients on their diagnosis, and benefits and risks of the proposed surgical procedure. In addition, the Dept of Neurological Surgery is partnering with the UCSF Service Excellence program to perform patient relations weekly rounding on the inpatient units to:

(1) provide proactive outreach and on the spot service to patient requests

(2) provide real time feedback to multidisciplinary providers regarding the patient experience

(3) allow providers the opportunity to improve the patient experience in real time while the patient is still in the hospital. Lastly, the Quality and Safety Program champions have led a Departmental Grand Rounds focusing on best practices to improve the patient experience.
